BOSTON (AP) There are races to run fast, and there are races just to finish. With temperatures hitting the 80s, Monday#39;s Boston Marathon was the latter.

Wesley Korir, a Kenyan citizen and permanent resident of the United States, won the Boston Marathon on Monday in a heat-slowed time of 2 hours, 12 minutes, 40 seconds that was almost 10 minutes behind the world best established here a year ago by Geoffrey Mutai.

The Boston Marathon is under way on a hot day in Massachusetts.

Before they can bask in glory, Boston Marathon runners on Monday will first bake in abnormally high temperatures -- so warm, in fact, that race organizers are taking several steps to warn participants and allow those concerned about the heat to instead run next year.
